Canadian Embassy in China becomes the First RESET™ Air Certified Government Project

Canadian Embassy in China becomes the first RESET™ Air certified government project at 1st October 2018.

The Canadian Embassy in China has been working to create the “Greenest Environmental Embassy in Beijing”. In addition to RESET air certification which indicate has healthy indoor air, it also awarded with BOMA BEST Green Environmental Management Silver certification.

RESET Air is the world’s first sensor-based, performance-driven building certification program where indoor air quality (IAQ) is continuously monitored and measured against international recommendations for healthy indoor air quality.

As with any RESET Air Commercial Interior project, in order to achieve certification, projects must ensure that indoor air pollutant levels stay within levels as prescribed by the RESET Air Standard.  The pollutants monitored include:

  • Particulate Matter (PM2.5) ≤35 μg/m3
  • Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) < 500ug/m3
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO2) < 1000ppm

Additionally, temperature and relative humidity must be continuously monitored although no specific thresholds are prescribed.

Further, in order to certify, projects must demonstrate reliability and consistency; namely a project must be able to maintain IAQ threshold levels over a minimum of three consecutive months in order to earn initial RESET Air Certification. Known as the Data Audit phase in the RESET Air Standard process, this phase is critical for projects to review and understand if they have designed and/or installed proper air filtration, ventilation equipment, materials and furnishings or even cleaning products -  all of which influence indoor air quality. The Data Audit period for Canadian Embassy in China began on 1st July 2018 and subsequent achievements for the requisite three-month phases were earned October 1st 2018.

The project will to continue to monitor indoor air quality moving forward and will communicate the IAQ data with staff and building occupants on a daily basis according to requirements for transparency and promotion of social equity in the RESET Air Standards.

About RESET™ Air

RESET Air is the world’s first sensor-based, performance-driven building certification program where indoor air quality is monitored and measured in real-time. Buildings and/or spaces are required to consistently maintain healthy indoor air quality at all times, as defined by the Standard. RESET Air is comprised of comprehensive standards for hardware or sensor performance, installation, maintenance and data communication.
