PASSIVE HOUSE INSTITUTE US ANNOUNCES COOPERATIVE IAQ AGREEMENT WITH RESET OWNER GIGABASE, INC.

The shared mission will ensure the health and well-being of building occupants who reside or work in PHIUS+ and RESET Certified buildings

Chicago, IL — June 7, 2017 — PHIUS announced a new joint cooperative relationship with GIGABASE (GIGA), developers of the Origin hub for building product data and of the RESET Standard.

The agreement will encourage teams pursuing PHIUS+ Certification to use RESET Standards and resources to help validate healthy indoor air quality (IAQ) and energy performance post occupancy, and will recommend that project teams pursuing RESET Air and RESET Energy Certifications use PHIUS+ Standards and Design Guidelines.

GIGA is an international independent third party which combines the development of building standards with cloud software. GIGA’s mission is to improve indoor environments and occupant health on a global scale. GIGA’s software solutions include Origin and the RESET Certification Cloud. GIGA also develops and administers the RESET Standard, the world’s first building standard and certification program focused on actionable, real-time data for healthy and energy efficient buildings.

“Excellent IAQ and energy efficiency are at the core of passive building design,” said PHIUS director Katrin Klingenberg. "The PHIUS+ certification is focused on strict energy efficiency targets. Standards to measure IAQ against are missing. RESET has come up with standards and guidelines on how to measure and validate both, actual IAQ and energy performance, on an ongoing basis; we hope this joint agreement with RESET—who also puts IAQ front and center—will propel our shared goal of ensuring healthy IAQ in residential and commercial buildings forward.”

“RESET is a technology based standard designed to dovetail into and support other building standards,” said Raefer Wallis, director of RESET “The combination of RESET and PHIUS+ Certifications is a perfect example of this type of dovetailing. PHIUS has long been a leader in showing how healthy air quality and energy efficiency goals can be made to work together and we're excited to be providing standards for measuring and communicate healthy indoor air quality on a continuous basis. The results and findings will be of benefit to the entire building industry.”

As part of the new agreement, PHIUS and GIGA will also explore sharing content from their respective training programs to provide high performance building professionals with a more holistic approach to design and verification in the field.

About PHIUS

PHIUS is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to making high-performance passive building the mainstream market standard. PHIUS is transforming the building sector by developing and promoting North American specific standards, practices, and certifications for buildings, professionals, and products to create structures that are durable, comfortable, healthy, and super energy efficient.

Founded in 2003, PHIUS has trained over 2,000 architects, engineers, energy consultants, energy raters, and builders in the passive building standard. The organization is the leading passive building research and information provider in North America. PHIUS released the PHIUS+ 2015 climate-specific building standard, developed under a DOE grant in partnership with Building Science Corporation, in March of 2015. In addition to the DOE, PHIUS has also established strategic relationships with key organizations including RESNET and the Home Innovation Research Labs, among others. The organization has received funding from the Richard King Mellon Foundation and, more recently, the John D. and Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation.

Through its Passive House Alliance US (PHAUS) program, a membership-based organization with over 800 members across 18 local chapters and dozens of corporate sponsors, PHIUS is building a robust national network of passive building communities across North America.

About RESET

RESET is the world’s only building standard and certification program that assesses and communicates the health performance of buildings in real-time. Defining standards for hardware, installation and maintenance as well as software and data reporting, RESET serves as a common building block and reference for building standards internationally.

The RESET Standard, cloud-based tools and metrics are used by companies to track and communicate the health performance of indoor spaces while optimizing occupant well-being, energy efficiency and the risk/return profile of assets and investments. RESET is applicable to Core & Shell and Commercial Interiors project typologies.
